I put this newsletter up earlier this year intent on writing some serial sci-fi fiction. The year got away from me, what with Witch-Lords of Skull Mountain, Swords Against (check out our Swords & Sorcery newsletter for what I’m trying to do here), and now 36 Patrons / 36 Wrecks.

Anyway. Now, I’m committing to doing a monthly sci-fi gaming newsletter (mostly focused on Traveller-esque games) with these four important aspects:

  • No Bloviating - I hate those “word count” substack newsletters that either say the same thing over and and over or end up saying nothing (usually both). I want this to be something you skim over your morning coffee or between projects, get something useful from and then move on with your day.

  • Gaming Content You Can Use - I’m obsessed with Traveller and derived games at the moment, but I’ve always loved sci fi gaming — Star Frontiers, Frontierspace, Mothership, Aliens…all of it! So, any gaming content is going to be something you can use (mostly with Traveller) but easily converted to other games.

  • Science Fiction Stories and Reviews- I’m a writer. A lot of you are writers. I’m going to open it up to a monthly sci fi column of short fiction. Like really short fiction. Or serial fiction. Or something else as the thing develops. But, also — reviews of current science fiction with a slant toward gaming usefulness.

  • Community News — I have recently come to Traveller as a game and community and I love both. The game is open and emergent by its design and the community is accepting and supportive. I want to highlight the community who produces tons of content, games, conventions, and other stuff that gamers love to hear about.

If you’ve recently joined, thank you! First monthly newsletter should go out before the end of October.

If you’re into the Traveller / Cepheus Engine games, I currently have a project funding over on Backerkit that includes 72 adventure cards for the game (36 patron job cards and 36 salvage adventure cards). We’re wrapping up that project over the next week and delivery is going to be less than a month after that (barring anything unforeseen). So, you don’t have to wait!
